As a result of a helicopter accident in 1994, French pilot Sylvie P. is now a paraplegic. Cause of accident: unauthorized autorotation by the flight instructor during her induction flight. She is the mother of two children.

The accident never went to court so no insurance money has been forthcoming. She also does not qualify for assistance from social security. Her assets were exhausted by legal expenses.

We were able to arrange flights for her to receive medical attention in Ulm and the USA. A publicity campaign secured sufficient donations for the purchase of a special wheelchair.

Further financial assistance and care were provided as a result of a coordinated effort with the  “Whirly Girls” (International Women Helicopter Pilots Association).

Ms. P. has since emigrated to Canada and no longer requires support from the Mayday Foundation.
